Curvy means a defined waist with fuller hips or bust, at almost any size. Thick usually means a full figure with big hips, thighs and bottom, and it's the word most often misread. BBW means a big, beautiful woman who's clearly plus-size and comfortable saying so. SSBBW means a super-sized BBW, at the larger end.
On a dating profile, the gap between what you mean and what the reader pictures is where the surprises come from. Here's how to close it.

"Thick" has drifted. Social media and music turned it into a word for a mainstream hourglass shape: small waist, big bottom, stomach mostly flat. So a soft plus-size woman and a gym-built hourglass can both write "thick", and a lot of men picture the second.
"Curvy" has the opposite problem. It's been stretched so wide that it covers a slim woman with a bust and a plus-size woman equally well, which means it tells the reader almost nothing.
They overlap without being the same. Curvy is about shape. Thick is about fullness in the lower half.
If either is your word, keep it, but add something plainer or a clear full-length photo so nobody fills in the gaps wrongly. The women's guide to joining has a quick guide to wording your profile.
BBW took off in 1979, when a magazine about fashion and style for plus-size women launched under that name. It was a positive, style-first answer to a world that mostly treated big women as a problem to be fixed.
Over the years the letters moved into personal ads, then dating sites, then porn categories. That last stop is part of why some women happily call themselves BBW, while others wince when a stranger uses it about them.
SSBBW came along as a way of saying "bigger than that". There's no official weight or size where BBW ends and SSBBW begins. It's self-described. If a woman calls herself SSBBW, that's what she is.
BHM stands for big handsome man, and it's the name big guys most often use for themselves on BBW sites. Some BHM are into BBW women, and some women want a big man in particular.

If you're a woman describing yourself: use your own word, then back it up with a recent full-length photo. If your word is "thick" or "curvy", add one plainer line.
If you're a man messaging her: mirror her. Her "curvy" shouldn't become your "fat", and her "fat" shouldn't get softened to "curvy". Don't call her a BBW unless she does.
